Re: SVE14A290X needs a dual band network card

Encompass was worthless. They only provide exactly the same hardware as ships with the Sony Laptop originally. So far the only thing I have found is Sony wants to control things even more than Apple.

HEY GIVE US USERS A BREAK!! We just want to access the 5ghz WiFi range since the 2.4 does not work well in all locations.

The advice we have all been given is USELESS.

I have 4  laptops and the 4 network cards I have purchased EACH work in the other 3 and NONE work in the Sony, including those that CLAIM to work with Sony.  What gives? Is there a white list in the BIOS? The cards all claim to be working properly, but cannot be turned on in the Sony Vaio.

I purchased an external version of the AC card, and it works fine!!

I would rather have the built in working, but this shows it is an artifical (and ******) restriction placed by SONY.

If anyone has a REAL IDEA or a place I can buy a BIOS for the

sve14a290x that will allow me to use the network card of my choice, or a card that has been BLESSED by Sony, please reply. But do not refer me to Sony Official Parts Providers that only provide original parts.
