I have an SvF14N13CXB with windows 8.1. The message keeps popping up that the battery cell voltage is too high and the charge light stays on. I have tried pressing the battery on/off button on the bottom of my computer with a paperclip through the pinhole, according to the instructions in VAIO Care related to this message. It may help for that particular incidence of the problem but within a day it will come back. I have attempted to unplug the computer for a while and let the battery run down and then recharge. Initially that seemed to work since the light would not come on until fully charged. However, recently it came on even when only 65% charged. One day it seems haphazard since I unplugged it when it came on at 65%, then I plugged it in again and it quickly charged to 100% and the charge light went off so it did not seem to have the problem that day. However, after that it came back again. I have 3 questions:
(1) Is it a dangerous condition for the computer to be in the state where the warning is up and the charge light is on, i.e. is it continuing to charge even though it is not allowed to and will this harm the battery and/or the computer ?
(2) How do I solve the recurrent problem ?
(3) I need to upgrade to Windows 10. I'm thinking to upgrade first and then see if the problem continues, rather than trying to solve it in Windows 8.1 first. Do you agree with this strategy ?
There have been several people reporting this on related VAIOs with Windows 10. It does not seem to have been solved by Sony representatives and my question has not had any reply on the technical board. Sony needs to find a solution as some people have got to a point where their computer is inoperable. My computer is only 2 years old and I am very disappointed that it is having a major problem so soon.
Thanks !
