Its now known that Sony has used Hitachi internal drives. Many customers have complained of clicking noises that were explained by technicians and others as a comon "trait" of Sony Vaio. Most people have said that they ignore the noisy drive to enjoy the product. The Hitachi drive originally installed in my VAIO T Ultra book has crashed and refused to boot leading to a black or blue screen that says "repairing windows" or " no operating system found". Sonys authorized service center "The Geek Squad" asked me if I heard a clicking noise before the fault?" I explained that it has always clicked but this time failed to boot after I installed windows 10. The technician turned on the computer; noted the black screen and said you need a new hard drive. She then tried to sale me a replacement HDD thats of much higher value and quality then the drive that came with the unit. I later found out that my failed Hitachi drive is under manufacturers warranty although the unit is not. So why isn't Sony directing its service provider to replace these drives or offer some incentive to install a better drive? Hitachi wants to do the right thing but can only replace the drive if Sony authorizes it. I like my Vaio T series Ultrabook and just by using it at my university lecture and library I have influenced quite a few admirers to buy a Sony. I hope Sony does the right thing by its customers who are in this situation. I would hate to explain to new admirers that my $1000.00 lap top came with a clicking drive that crashed after only two years of ownership.
