My post is for any Sony support engineer that can advice me quieter fan model.
I've been a VAIO laptop owner since 2011, my laptop is 12" (11.6) VPCYB basen on AMD E-350 APU.
I have also been facing unfomfort laptop use due to fan noise. Contacting support, upodating BIOS, etc. did not affect the problem. Even at low CPU usage the problem persists.
I know Sony employees are not very keen when someone is referring to a laptop by another brand, but just to visualize the problem I will have to refer to another laptop: I vahe also been using the laptop of the same size, thickness, and the same platform (AMD E-350), model is Lenovo ThinkPad x120e (if I'm no mistaking).
It has completely different noise characteristic of the fan. My VAIO fan sounds like it has sleeve bearing - the most of the noise is coming from fan motor itself. ThinkPad fan only emits air hissing, which means fan motor has rather efficient ball bearing. Vaio fan also hisses, but noise from the motor (from motor, not from the fan itself - this is very important) is rather loud even at low speeds and at imcomfortable spectrum.
So the only solution for a number of Vaio models - is FAN replacement (upgrade sleeve bearing fan to ball-bearing fan).
So my question is - please confirm if VAIO VPCYB (as well as other smaller models) has sleeve bearing in cooling fan's motor.
And more important - is there any alternative FAN (only fan, without any heatsinks) with BALL BEARING that can be installed instead of the original fan? It can be virtually compatible, e.g. affixed only with 2 mount holes instead of 3 or 4, etc - anything is acceptable as long as it cools CPU and performs quieter.
